A PLUSH seafront hotel is to expand its spa in an ambitious £1.5million pound project.

The four-star rated Roslin Hotel, in Thorpe Esplanade, in Thorpe Bay, offers treatments at the moment, but is to offer a bigger range of services as part of the extension, which will include five new treatment rooms, a terrace, hydrotherapy pool, sauna, and steam room.

Megan Harris, who manages the spa part of the hotel, said: “We’re extremely excited about the plans and would love to think that the Roslin will be the next luxury destination spa in Essex.”

Although the hotel has yet to apply for planning permission, bosses say they hope work is completed by April next year.

The hotel has two treatment rooms, offering massages, facials, and tanning services, but this will be more than doubled with the new spa area.

A revamped reception, complete with a small shop selling spa goods, will be installed too.

The five extra rooms will include double treatment space for couples as the hotel looks to entice non-holidaymakers to the hotel.

A nail area and a rooftop relaxation spot, complete with terraced views of the Thames Estuary, round off the new spa.

The existing smaller service opened in January last year and has proved very popular.

Ms Harris added: “It is off the back of the success of the spa we’re looking to expand.

“It’s great news for the local economy too as it means we’ll need to employ more staff.

“If we are given planning permission, I don’t think there is anything else in the area that could offer as much as we’re offering.”

The spa now has six therapists on its books, but bosses claim they will need to recruit another 10 as well as three receptionists.

The new area will be created within existing space in the hotel, with only the rooftop terrace resembling any sort of extension.

Hotel bosses claim the hotel will not be rising higher as a result of the new spa, and the terrace will just level out the top of the building.

Access to the spa is from the hotel’s car park at the back.
