LIFE savers were called to two incidents yesterday evening.

Southend RNLI crew had to rescue two females – one teenagers and a child - off the shore at Three Shells Café as they were in danger of being cut off by the flooding tide.

They launched their search and rescue hovercraft at about 3.45pm to pick up the females and ferry them back to shore.

They were met by the ambulance crews who treated the child for cut feet.

The hovercraft was re-launched at 6.15pm to Benfleet train station to reports by the Thames Coastguard of a man in his thirties giving cause for concern near the road bridge.

The inshore lifeboat was also launched to help.

They searched the area and found nothing, so stood down and returned to the station.

The man handed himself in to police later on that evening.
