SOUTHEND lifesavers have hailed the rescue of two adults and a child stranded at sea as one of the quickest shouts on record.

Southend RNLI launched its inshore lifeboat at about 4.10pm yesterday and found a 37ft yacht had run aground near Southend Pier Head, just yards from the lifeboat station.

The fin keeled boat was towed to deeper water before crews returned to station within 15 minutes.

A spokesperson for Southend RNLI said: “This had to be one of the quickest shouts on record at 15 minutes from lifeboat launch to lifeboat recovery.”
