SHOPPERS queued round the block to be the first through the doors of a new shop.

Yours, which sells clothing in sizes 14 plus, gave away goody bags to 100 people who spent two hours lined up outside the shop in Basildon’s Eastgate Centre on Friday.

There were cheers as the shutters were finally pulled up at 10am and Joanne Taylor, 34, of Basildon, was the first in the queue.

She said: “There are not many shops that cater for bigger women.

“Those which do sell old granny stuff. We don’t want to walk around in tents. We want fashion.

“That’s why I’m here. Plus it’s good prices.

“People moan about shops closing. If they sold more things people wanted, like Yours does, they wouldn’t close.”

Martha Deeth, 53, came from Burnham on Crouch to see what all the fuss was about.

She said: “I was on the road for 7.15am to get here on time.

“There’s just nothing for people needing bigger sizes. I can see me being here all the time.”

Annaliese Day, 32, of Langdon Hills, took her baby Mia, 11 months, to the opening.

She added: “This will encourage me to come to Basildon more.

“I got paid today so my husband won’t be best pleased when I come home later.”

Yours created 12 jobs with the opening. It was the second new shop to open in Basildon in as many days.

On Thursday, more than 300 people waited outside TK Maxx, at Pipps Hill Retail Park, for the doors to open and there was a stampede as they finally rushed inside.
