THE streets from Southend to Westcliff were brightened up as a group of young people made the short walk in fancy dress to raise money for charity.

Members of the Essex Boys’ and Girls’ Club took part in the walk from Southend Victoria station to Westcliff and back to raise money and awareness for Whizz-Kidz.

Joseph Milburn, leader at the club, led a group of about 25 people on the walk, which was organised as part of the National Citizen Service, which helps build skills for work and life.

The group raised nearly £200 for the charity, after being inspired by a visit and wanting to do more to help it.

Mr Milburn said: “The group spent a week planning what they were going to do to help the charity after they heard what it did and wanted to help.

“The group, all young people aged 15 to17, will also be holding a charity quiz night in Hockley and trying to raise more awareness for the great work Whizz-Kidz does.
