ACANVEY nursing home must act to improve the way it is run, health inspectors say.

The Care Quality Commission inspected Moorings Nursing Home, in Thorney Bay Road, Canvey, during the summer and found it was failing in several respects.

Inspectors expressed concerns about cleanliness, infection control and the number of staff on duty.

The home looks after nearly 40 older people and residents who spoke to inspectors praised staff for their care.

The CQC report says: “All the floors were in need of cleaning. We found a small piece of faeces on the floor of one person's room.

“This meant someone had made the bed and left the faeces on the floor. This practice could put people at risk of infection.”

Home manager Veekafh Bhowaneesing, said Moorings had already made improvements.

He added: “We have looked at systems, made changes and implemented new electronic recordkeeping and that is working well.

“At the time of the inspectors’ visit there was a high level of staff sickness. It was just one of those days. It’s a clean place and a safe place to live and the majority of people who use the service are very happy.”

Since the report, the home has changed its management. It is due to report to the CQC on the changes it has made by Wednesday.
