COMEDIAN Terry Alderton says he is horrified at getting booed off the stage at the Invictus Games closing ceremony.

The Southend funnyman, who was recently in EastEnders, is mortified at dozens of angry posts on Twitter accusing him of using expletives at the family- friendly event, along with a number of inappropriate jokes.

The comedian told a joke about missing planes, possibly in reference to the Malaysia Airlines flight MH370, and then goaded the audience to “boo louder”

when it started to go wrong.

Organisers of the event, which ended the Prince Harry-inspired games for wounded servicemen and women, even turned off Terry's microphone in a bid to stop him.

Speaking exclusively to the Echo, Terry said: “I have never felt so bad about anything. I’ve played lots of military gigs and knowhow to playmilitary gigs, but when I heard people saying I was out of order I just started to panic.

Sometimes you can get yourself out of out of a mess at gigs like the Comedy Club, but not in front of all those people.

“I went off and then someone said why not go back on. That’s the point where it really got bad. I just mugged myself off, really.

“I feel sick and have apologised on Twitter.”

Terry has always been keen to support the military in the past, making this episode especially troubling. He said: “I have done gigs in Afghanistan twice. I’ve done stuff for Help fore Heroes in Southend “I have had a terrible night. The hideous thing is the Twitter feed.

“I truly don’t deserve this. To be honest maybe I chose the wrong gags, but they weren’t that bad. I just pitched it the wrong way .”

Terry, who is due to do his stand-up routine at the Palace Theatre, Westcliff, on October 18, added: “Honestly, its get back on the horse time because right now I feel like I don’t ever want to do that again.

“How wonderful the British public can be, but how terrible they can be too.”

The Invictus Games for injured servicemen and women were brought to a close by the sell-out concert at the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park in London.

Terry played Cockney cabbie Terry Spraggan in EastEnders, but was written out of the show last week after less than a year in the soap.

He told fans the decision was down to the departure from the show of Patsy Palmer, who plays his on-off girlfriend Bianca Butcher.
