A MAN is fighting for his life after being hit by a white van in a potential hit and run.

The 22-year-old was walking with friends on London Road, Vange, close to the entrance of Homebase DIY when he was struck by the van.

He suffered serious head injuries and was rushed to Basildon Hospital. Doctors say he is being treated for potentially life-threatening injuries.

The driver, who initially stopped at the scene to talk to the victim’s friends, then drove off.

Police are hunting the driver and are appealing with him to make contact with them.

Speaking about the serious crash, which happened at about 1.50am on Sunday morning, a spokesman

for Essex Police said: “Police are appealing for the driver of a white van involved in a collision with a pedestrian in Vange to contact them.

“It was reported that the driver of the van initially stopped at the scene and spoke to friends of the injured man before driving off. Police are urging the driver of the van to make contact with them.”
