Police are appealing for witnesses after a man in his twenties was assaulted in Southend leaving him with a broken jaw.

The man from Westcliff was with a friend in Chancellor Road junction with Herbert Grove just before 1.10am yesterday, when he was approached by two men, beaten to the floor, kicked and stamped on. He was left with a broken jaw which required surgery.

The first suspect is described as white, of slim build, aged in his 20s with short cropped light coloured hair and wore a white top.

The second was also white, of average build, also aged in his 20s, with short cropped light hair and wore a blue top and a white scarf wrapped around his neck.

Dc James Freeman said: "This was an unprovoked attack on two young men making their way home from an enjoyable night out. This attack has left one victim with serious injuries to his jaw, which required surgery to fix. I would urge anyone that witnessed this attack, or with any information about this incident in Chancellor Road to contact me.”
