A YOUNGSTER who was diagnosed with severe epilepsy at the age of just six was whisked off to Cannes to see his dream become a reality.

Ned Hardy, from Canvey, took the Eurostar to France alongside his family to relive his favourite film Mr Bean’s Holiday.

The 12-year-old regularly watches the movie as he finds the funny storyline comforting and is able to escape from the everyday challenges of his condition.

His parents spend every night in a chair by his bedside to stop him getting injured as his seizures normally take place during his sleep.

Doctors are currently looking into what causes the episodes, and Ned could have to undergo surgery in the future.

The trip to Cannes was organised by Make-A-Wish, a charity which helps make dreams come true for children with life-threatening illnesses.

Mum Julie said: “The trip was very positive for Ned.

His smile broadened with every day and the experience helped him grow in confidence.

“It taught him he doesn’t have to be so restricted by his condition.

“The photos and the memories of the trip will give Ned strength to carry him forward during difficult times. We have had to deal with a lot of difficult times over the years, but the wish restored the balance and we were able to relax and have fun as a family.”

In true Mr Bean style, the family hired a Mini Cooper to travel to Cannes.

They visited the resort of Millau, which features in the film, along the route before taking in the sights of Cannes and seeing where the world famous film festival takes place.

The Make-A-Wish charity organisation, which receives no Government funding, is aiming to raise £7million this year alone to help make 900 other dreams like Ned’s come true.
