A TALENTED schoolgirl is set to see her artwork printed on shopping bags.

Ten-year-old Shanie Aldridge, a pupil at Merrylands Primary School, in Cumberland Drive, Laindon, bagged the top prize in an art competition organised by supermarket Tesco.

Her vibrant design, which caught the eye of the judges because of its colour, impact, and sense of fun and style, will now be printed on 250 re-usable shopping bags, which will be handed out for free to parents and children at Merrylands.

Youngsters across the borough were asked to come up with their own creations to promote the click and collect service, which has been launched at the store in Langdon Hills.

Winner Shanie visited Tesco this week with her classmates, family and teachers to get a glimpse of her prize.

She also won £250 for Merrylands Primary School and a £25 gift card for herself.

The click and collect service sees shoppers order groceries online before picking them up from a collection point in the car park, at a time which is convenient for them.

A spokesman for Tesco said: “The click and collect service is already a big hit with busy customers who want their grocery shopping picked and packed, but don’t have the time to wait at home for a delivery.

“The convenient service is a great shopping solution for busy mums and young professionals on their way home from work or anyone just returning from holiday.”
