A PLANE has crashed at Southend Airport.
The airport runway was closed for an hour after a light aircraft crashed on landing at about 10.30am today.
The Echo understands the Cirrus aircraft, with two men in their 60s aboard, set off from Southend for Belgium but turned back as the destination runway was closed.
The pilot lost control on landing in Southend and the aircraft crashed into the grass, damaging its propeller.
No-one was injured in the crash and no commercial flights were affected.
An airport spokeswoman said: “At just after 10.30am this morning there was an incident involving a light aircraft coming into land at London Southend Airport.
“London Southend Airport Fire Service, Essex Fire and Rescue Service and the ambulance service all attended the scene.
“The runway was closed for around an hour, but has now re-opened.
“No flights into or out of the airport were affected.
“No-one was injured.”
