A DATE has been set for a third meeting of Rochford District Council’s Forum for Surface Water Flooding.

The meeting will be held at 10am on Monday, December 15, at the Civic Suite in Rayleigh, with members of the public invited to attend.

The council is not directly responsible for flooding but during the year it has set up the forum to bring together all relevant parties to discuss surface water flooding in the district.

Thanks to previous meetings of the forum it has been possible to identify landowners and who is responsible for various watercourses, with remedial measure being made to try and alleviate resultant flooding.

Keith Hudson, deputy leader of the council and deputy chairman of the forum, said: “At the last meeting more than 30 hotspots were discussed in relation to flooding.

“This meeting will review these sites to ensure that progress is being made in relation to the necessary maintenance work.

“I’m pleased to say that much of the work carried out so far is bearing fruit, with no properties flooded during recent heavy rainfall.”

The meeting has been scheduled for the morning because other agencies, including Essex Highways, the Environment Agency and Anglian Water, were unable to make an evening meeting.
