A SAFE sex campaign designed by students is catching the eyes of patients at Southend sexual health centre.

Health and social care BTEC students from South Essex College have helped to brighten up Kingsley Ward Centre in Warrior House, Southchurch Road, by creating posters promoting safe sex.

The students designed the posters to promote the serious message of preventing STIs, HIV testing and contraception.

Cartoon condoms called Johnny, Jane and Jay and slogans including, “no glove, no love” and “be a good lover, cover with rubber” all feature.

Tutor Sam Ford said she was proud of the students’ achievements.

She said: “The students have been really enthusiastic to be a part of this campaign and what they have produced is excellent.

“Not only does it help make others aware of the importance of contraception, it has also helped them further their functional skills in English and maths, as well as covering a vast area of the curriculum.”

The campaign has been such a hit with the centre, the group have been invited to speak about their posters at a sexual health summit in February.
