A FATHER-of-two who was left with devastating injuries after having acid thrown in his face will appear on Crimewatch tonight to appeal for information.

Darren Pidgeon, 27, from Rayleigh, was followed by two people as he drove to Kingsmere, in Thundersley, on Tuesday, June 2, 2014.

As he pulled over, a man walked up to his car window and shouted "what's your problem?" before spraying acid in his eyes.

Mr Pidgeon was rushed to Broomfield Hospital, in Chelmsford, which specialises in burns and plastic surgery, where skin from his leg was used to try to heal burns to his face, head, shoulder and arm.

He was been left with severe scarring and has moved to London because he is scared his attackers will return.

Mr Pidgeon, a painter and decorator, will appear on Crimewatch alongside detectives investigating the incident to talk about his injuries and how the attack has affected his life.

Investigating Officer, Ds Mike Calvert, said: "This was an unprovoked attack which has caused appalling injuries to the victim.”

Two people were arrested in connection with the incident, but later released without charge.

Detectives are still looking to identify and find a suspect described as white, aged in his early 30s, of slim build, approximately 5fts 8ins to 5ft 10ins tall, with short, light coloured hair.

At the time of the attack which took place at 11.30pm, he was wearing a light grey polo shirt, blue denim jeans and a dark hoodie.

Crimewatch will air on BBC One at 9pm tonight.

The episode will also feature Naomi Oni, from Dagenham, who had acid chucked in her face by a childhood friend.

A special hotline, 0300 333 4444, will launch following the television appeal.
