RESIDENTS teamed up with police officers to help corral an escaped horse back into its paddock.

The young horse was on the loose on Rawreth Lane near Asda at about 1.30pm when passer-by Hayley Bloomfield managed to use a dog lead as an improvised head collar to lead it into a nearby front garden and block it in.

Commenting on Facebook, she said two other women soon arrived to help slow down traffic as she kept the horse in the garden before a friend of its owner turned up to lead it away.

She said: “Can’t praise the two police officers that attended enough ...They got there quickly and weren't afraid to be hands on, and used one of their cars to block him... he was very nervous and only young. ...quick logical thinking got him back to his paddock safely.

Andy Bowman, who also raised the alarm with police, added: “He just ran out in front of me just after the speed change to 30.

“If someone hadn't obeyed the limit it may have been worse.”
