A FAMILY-OF-FOUR have been unable to move into their dream home because of long delays on a major development.

Gavin Peake, 38, wife Carla, 47, and their two children were meant to move into their new-build at Beauchamps Place, off Southend Road, Wickford, in December, but the windows and doors have still not been fitted.

Martin Grant Homes, the developers, have now told the family they will get the keys in May.

They have been staying with Mrs Peake’s parents in Margretting, but admit this has had a “massive disruption”

on their lives.

Mr Peake has had to transfer his business Front Door Store, which was based at the former family home in Rochford Close, Shotgate, to Romford.

Daughter Natalie, 17, and son Joshua, 13, who has special needs, have to travel to and from school in Wickford every day.

Mr Peake said: “We moved out of our old house in December.

“Martin Grant have pushed our date back again, but the latest delays is apparently to do with the flooring.”

Mr Peake claims he has been hit with extra costs, and the builders have refused to fit an electric hob which would be safer for his son.

Beauchamps Place is being developed on Wickford Town Football Club’s old ground.

The company was given planning permission in 2007 and work started three years later, after environmental andwildlife surveys had been carried out.

Developer’s apology

MARTIN Grant Homes has apologised to homeowners after admitting their movein dates have been “pushed back significantly.”

The Peake family are not the only customers affected by the delays.

Chris Hamilton, managing director of Martin Grant Homes, said: “We apologise. The build has not progressed as envisaged.

“The development was hugely popular when launched, but this has meant some customers, who were able to reserve and secure their preferred property, have had to wait longer than forecast.

“We understand this is causing major inconvenience and a disruption to our customers, in addition to proving very frustrating.

“We are working on making sure their new homes are ready as soon as possible.”
