A GROUP of Basildon woodworkers are donating a model of a 100-year-old car to help raise funds for the Children’s Air Ambulance.

The woodworkers, from the Laindon Day Centre, will donate a 1907 Rolls Royce silver ghost model, which has rocking capabilities and seating for two children.

By auctioning the model, it is hoped money can be raised to go towards a second aircraft for the charity.

The Children’s Air Ambulance is the only paediatric helicopter service in the country, transferring critically ill children to specialist units across the UK.

The service currently has only one helicopter.

Terri Sargent, Basildon borough councillor responsible for environment and community, said: “Over the years, the woodworkers have donated many of their items created towards charitable initiatives, including a rocking motorbike to the Help for Heroes charity, raising £3,500 towards their cause.

“And their hard work has not gone unnoticed by Rolls-Royce Motor Cars who have called it ‘a remarkable undertaking’.

“Laindon Day Centre also has many other activities available apart from woodwork, such as keep fit, dancing, bowling and craft classes for our over 50s residents.”

Residents interested in joining the day centre can call 01268 465860 or visit the centre in Aston Road.
