A CARETAKER “who was always willing to go the extra mile to help” is retiring after two decades at a Basildon primary school.
Site manager Barrie Biggs is leaving St Anne Line Junior School, in Wickhay, after 21 years in the role.
Headteacher Martin Larrett, who gave Mr Biggs the job in the first place, spoke of his gratitude for his years of service.
Mr Larrett said: “Barrie has been an outstanding site manager, always prepared to go the extra mile for the pupils and staff of this school.
“The school has benefited considerably from his wide range of skills – particularly carpentry – and his involvement in the development of the school allotment, gardening projects and the 50th anniversary garden.”
At a special assembly, staff, governors and pupils presented Mr Biggs with gifts to develop his photography hobby, as well as a “golden broom” in recognition of his service.
