GOOD citizens were honoured at an awards ceremony in Leigh.

Leigh Town Council held its Good for Leigh awards at Elm Road Community Centre recognising the achievements of individuals and organisations in their service to the community.

Ian Johnson received an award for his many years’ service with the 3rdChalkwell Bay Sea Scouts, St John Ambulance and Leigh Town Council events.

Majors John and Teresa Carmichael were awarded for their work with the Salvation Army now they are retiring, while Norman Sutcliffe was awarded for his voluntary work at Leigh Community Centre.

Body’s Opticians were awarded for going above and beyond with the Leigh Lights, Clive Shirett was recognised for making his Leigh Road car park available for town council events, while Garry Lowen was awarded for his work as the parade manager of the Leigh Lights.

In addition, the Esoteric Buddhist Meditation Group was recognised for its work in collecting food for local food banks at the community centre.
