A SCOUT volunteer is preparing to visit Japan, along with 30,000 youngsters for this year’s World Scout Jamboree.

Philip Tsz Wong, 40, from Rayleigh has been selected from Scouting’s 100,000 adult volunteers to represent the UK at the 23rd jamboree.

Along with 26 other volunteers from Essex, Philip will help support the spectacular for more than 30,000 young people from all over the world.

Philip is among the volunteer international service team who make the event a reality for the 36 young people, aged 14 to 18, from Essex, along those from more than 100 countries.

Philip had to complete a variety of team activities and creativity tests to demonstrate why he should be part of the team.

He said: “I love travelling and I love Scout jamborees.

“I’ve already been to two World Scout Jamborees, in Chelmsford and in Sweden, and more than twenty across the UK.

“I love the unique atmosphere of friendship, as well as all the fun activities. I’m really looking forward to meeting new people in a place where the fun never stops.” Chief Scout, Bear Grylls said: “Congratulations to Philip and all the other UK volunteers who have been selected from Essex. While lots of people know Scouting is all about adventure, they often don’t realise adult volunteers get to do just as much as our young members through their involvement.

“The World Scout Jamboree is a great example of this.”
