PEOPLE have reacted angrily after it emerged a man was given a caution for indecently touching a sleeping woman on a train.

Echo readers took to echo-news.co.uk to share their anger at the action taken after the man was given the caution, despite initially being arrested on suspicion of sexual assault.

A 25-year-old women was inappropriately touched as she slept on a c2c train on her morning commute in February.

British Transport Police issued a CCTV picture of the man they wanted to speak to in relation to the incident last Thursday, arrested him the next day and then gave him a police caution as punishment.

Commenting on our website, Andyloveslife said: “How can this be right?!

“I wonder how the poor victim feels. I do agree that this pervert should be banned from all the c2c trains, that would of been more of a punishment than what police gave.

“Gaining a caution doesn’t even put him on the sexual offenders’ list. This is so wrong!

“What lesson has the pervert learnt – nothing at all, history shows that this sort of predator will go on to commit further more serious sexual offences.

“I just hope I never read a story that this pervert has gone on to do the unthinkable to an innocent women.

“My thoughts are with the victim and hope she can gain closure, albeit, no real punishment given.”

Fellow web commenter Mr Bubbles said: “That really told him, didn’t it?

“Gives out a clear message to any future scumbag sex predators not to try anything on a train?”

Depotman added: “What a waste of time, basically what the police are saying is it’s OK to sexually assault someone.”

A similar incident occurred on a train between London Liverpool Street and Southend Victoria last year with the offender being jailed for five months and put on the sex offenders’ register for seven years.

Angur Miah, 35, admitted assaulting a 23-yearold woman as she slept in an empty carriage.

Both the British Transport Police and c2c refused to comment.
