Stipe Pletikosa, the Croatia goalkeeper, hopes to be given the chance to replace Artur Boruc at Celtic should the Pole leave in the summer.

Ivan Klasnic, Pletikosa's international team-mate, who has been linked with Rangers, says that he would consider approaches from both sides of the Old Firm, but has not yet received any offers.

Boruc earlier this week reiterated his desire to leave Celtic in the summer if one of Europe's top clubs make an offer for him. Pletikosa, whom the Celtic manager has twice tried to sign, for Southampton and then for Celtic in 2005, says he would jump at the chance to move to Glasgow should the opportunity arise again.

The 29-year-old, who played against Scotland on Wednesday night, said: "Before Boruc came in, I received an offer from Celtic and they wanted me to come. At the time when the deal fell through I was very disappointed, but what can you do? Life must go on.

"Of course, I'm not just saying it because I'm here in Scotland right, but I would love to play for Celtic some day.

"We'll see what happens. I've signed a new four-year contract at Spartak Moscow and I'm doing well there, but who knows what can happen."

Klasnic, the 28-year-old Werder Bremen striker, spent most of 2007 on the sidelines after a life-threatening kidney problem. He said: "I don't know anything about a transfer to Rangers. I have heard the stories in the media, but I have not been approached.

"My contract in Bremen finishes in the summer and I'm looking at every option to see what happens. I don't know what my future will be, whether I stay in Werder or not, I'm not sure. Rangers are a good team and both them and Celtic have done well in Europe over the past couple of years. We'll see what happens and, if I get an offer from them, we can talk about it.

"But there's no doubt Scottish football is becoming stronger," he added. "Scotland played well in the qualifying for Euro 2008, the only mistake they made was against Italy in the last game.

"I think they can go on and build on that success to reach the World Cup in 2010."

Pletikosa's Spartak lost out to Celtic in the sides' Champions League qualifier last August, Boruc saving twice as Celtic won 4-3 in a penalty shoot-out. Pletikosa, capped 66 times for his country, is determined to come out on top when the two keepers face up at Euro 2008.

He said: "Of course, Boruc is a great goalkeeper; I think he is the best player in the Polish national team. We play against them in the group stage at Euro 2008 so that will be interesting. I hope I can come out on top this time because, when you lose games, you want to get it back in your advantage as soon as you can."

"The match against Scotland was great preparation for us ahead of this summer's finals.

"It was a good friendly game, because it was also very competitive. I think the 1-1 result was fair in the end."
