CLYDE boss John Brown believes front man Pat Clarke can help fire the Bully Wee up the Irn-Bru First Division table.

Clarke bagged a double for the second successive week to shoot down Queen of the South at Palmerston and help lift Clyde off the foot of the table and take him on to the nine-goal mark for the season.

Bomber said: "I am delighted for big Pat as he is now getting the reward for his hard work. The bottom line is that if we have a provider then Pat will put the ball in the net.

"That is the second week on the bounce he has scored two and we have four points from six as a result of that.

"But that is down to the return to fitness of Willie McLaren. He has provided us with much- needed creativity that we had previously been without."

Brown added: "We have also come through this one without any fresh injuries and that is another massive plus."

Morton gaffer Davie Irons revealed his side's vital three-point haul at Dunfermline had almost been upset by impending fatherhood.

Aussie hitman Erik Paartalu's 24th-minute strike claimed a key victory for the Greenock side and Irons said: "This was a great result whatever way you look at it.

"But it was made even more impressive by the fact we lost Stewart Greacen as his wife was expecting. All the coaching manuals in the world never prepare you for that.

"On top of that, we also gave Allan Jenkins the honour of leading the side out after he had become a father. But, fair play to Allan and the rest of the boys, they kept their focus and got the job done and that is what counts."

Irons added: "We have also moved to three points off Dundee so we are closing back in on the rest of the pack and that was the target."

Airdrie United went down 2-0 at Ross County to hit rock bottom ahead of their trip to Cappielow tomorrow night.
