RETAIL giant Marks & Spencer has withdrawn some food from its shelves after salmonella was discovered.

The store has withdrawn two own-brand houmous goods after the bacteria was found in routine tests.

A probe has been launched to find out how the bug got into the food.

A statement from M&S today said: "Routine microbiological testing conducted by our supplier has indicated the presence of salmonella in two houmous products which were immediately withdrawn from sale.

"As an extreme precaution only, we have also withdrawn all unaffected Marks & Spencer houmous until we are satisfied our products meet our high standards."

The two products are Piquillo Pepper Topped Houmous and Reduced Fat Houmous - dated use by February 15.

Customers with the products will get a full refund.
