TRAIN passengers will face a repeat dose of Bank Holiday disruption next weekend.

Replacement buses will be in action on the Greater Anglia line on Sunday, May 3, and Monday, May 4.

London-bound services will terminate at Wickford, where passengers will have to get on buses to connect with the underground at Newbury Park.

The disruption replicates service alterations which took place during the Easter weekend.

Network Rail said engineering work was taking place during the Bank Holiday weekend, when it claims passenger numbers are 20 to 30 per cent lower than usual, to minimise disruption.

People travelling from Southend Victoria, Rayleigh, Hockley and Rochford will all affected by the work, which will add about an hour to journey times to and from London.

Network Rail chief executive Mark Carne said: "We'd like to apologise to any passengers whose plans are affected by our improvement work, but I hope they will understand that this is a quieter time on the railway and we want to minimise the overall impact of these vital projects on passengers."
