THE search for the citizen of Southend 2015 has begun.

Do you know an individual or group who has made an outstanding contribution to the community?

An unsung hero who has performed an act of kindness? Or, someone who just needs to be recognised for being noble?

You can nominate them for the annual award which celebrates an outstanding contribution to the community by an individual or a group aged between eight and 80 years old.

Nominees for the award can be based on a varied criteria such as demonstrating courage and bravery, contributions to the community, leading community projects, helping care for the disadvantaged and outstanding achievements in particular fields including health, education, community affairs, social work and the environment.

This year, manager of the Royals Shopping Centre, Dawn Jeakings will join Philip Miller MBE, Sir Teddy Taylor, Ian Robertson, Peter Virgo, Yusuf Goolamali, Mick Thwaites and John Barber on the judging panel.

Mrs Jeakings said: “This award is a very special one, and I am delighted to be joining the judging panel to find the Southend Borough’s 2015 community heroes.

“Many people show exceptional kindness every day, but this is your chance to bring them to our attention and also make a difference too.

“This is an award for the people, so take the time to nominate the person or group who you believe deserves this great accolade”.

The Citizen of Southend Award is separated into gold, silver and bronze winners.

As well as the prestigious title, the winner of the gold award will be presented with a personalised trophy and a £500 cash prize.
