A NEWLY-ELECTED Rochford District councillor has been recognised for his dedication to the Neighbour-hood Watch Scheme.
George Ioannou, who was elected as a Conservative councillor for Ashingdon and Canewdon in this month’s elections, recently received the Coordinator of the Year for the Rochford District award from the Essex County Neighbourhood Watch Association.
He received the award at a special ceremony at the Great Baddow Millennium Centre.
Mr Ioannou said: “As a newly appointed councillor, I was overwhelmed to receive this prestigious award.
“This is something I didn’t expect or look for, however I am very grateful to have been given this honour.”
A spokesman for the association said: “His enthusiasm and commitment to the cause has resulted in all the whole village of some 350 households now being involved in Neighbourhood Watch.”
