TWO bouncers will today start jail sentences after being convicted of kidnapping a festival-goer who was later killed in a car crash.

A jury yesterday found Gregory Maxwell, 33, of Romford and Brian Atkins, 49, of Ilford, guilty of kidnap. The pair had earlier been cleared of false imprisonment.

Paul Wickerson, 32, died after attending Brownstock festival, in Stow Maries, in August 2013.

Jury find security guard pair guilty of kidnap

He died of multiple injuries after being hit by up to four cars after he was kidnapped by bouncers Gregory Maxwell and Brian Atkins following an altercation and dumped miles from the site in Lower Burnham Road.

This morning, Judge Karen-Walden Smith said she was sentencing the pair not for causing Mr Wickerson's death but for the earlier breach of trust.

Maxwell was jailed for three years. Atkins was jailed for three years and nine months for the kidnap, plus a further six months after earlier admitting the illegal possession of a CS spray canister.
