FIVE cyclists were taken to hospital after a high-speed crash in West Mayne, Laindon.

Paramedics were called to the incident shortly after 8pm yesterday.

Three ambulances, a rapid response vehicle and an ambulance officer rushed to the scene.

Four of the cyclists, who were all men, were treated at the scene before being taken to Basildon Hospital by ambulance for further care.

Two of the men had hip and leg injuries, one had back and neck injuries and another had neck and head injuries.

The fifth cyclist made his own way to A&E.

None of their injuries were described as life-threatening.
