A WOMAN has described how she turns into a “monster”

because of chronic pre-menstrual tension.

Chevonne Parker, 36, from Wickford, suffers from a form of Premenstrual Dysphoric Disorder (PMDD) so rare that it is only experienced by between 3 and 5 per cent of the female population.

For up to three weeks in everymonth, she becomes violent, short-tempered and uninterested sexually in her husband Darren, 37, who she has been with since 2002.

Chevonne likened herself to a Mr Hyde-type creature, similar to the man in the fictional story the Strange Case of Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde.

She said: “It turns me from someone I am, a laidback easygoing person, into a horrible monster.

“I have no motivation to do anything. It changed me, it’s like Jekyll and Hyde.

“The thing with PMDD that’s different from depression or bipolar, is when I have my period, I’m totally different.

So as soon as I menstruate, I’m totally different for a week, or, if I’m lucky, two weeks.”

When she was younger, Chevonne suffered from normal levels of PMT, but she believes going through IVF was the catalyst for it turning into PMDD.

She appeared on ITV’s This Morning alongside supportive husband Darren in a bid to raise awareness of the condition.

Chevonne was forced to give up her job as a passenger escort for disabled people because of the amount of time she had to take off sick.

Her outbursts are often so violent, she smashes household items, and has even split her husband’s lip during a rage. However, Darren has stood by her.

Speaking to This Morning presenters Phillip Schofield and Amanda Holden, he said: “‘At points, it has been hard to deal with.

“At the beginning, we didn’t know what it was and I couldn’t understand it.

“But now we have it diagnosed, we knowwhat it is, so it makes it easier to deal with.

“It’s because of her condition that she’s doing these things. She has no choice."
