FIREFIGHTERS are carrying out a special rescue exercise in Benfleet.
Crews from Canvey, Leigh and specialist teams from North Essex are working on Benfleet Bridge, off Ferry Road.
Concerned residents reported seeing body bags pulled from the mud.
Essex Fire Service said: "If you've seen firefighters near to the Benfleet and Canvey Flood Barrier, don't be alarmed - we are taking part in an planned exercise."
Crews are practicing rescuing two people who have fallen while working on the barrier.
The swift water team from Leigh and water pump from Canvey are involved.
The urban search and rescue team are also at the scene.
