Car bursts into flames outside Canvey leisure centre

The male driver of the green Jaguar was able to safely jump out of vehicle outside Waterside Farm, on Somnes Avenue, Canvey, before it set alight.

An engine fault is believed to be responsible for the fire.

One crew from Canvey station rushed to the scene at about 7pm yesterday, and reported the vehicle was 50 per cent alight.

The firefighters use two hose reel jets and spent 25 minutes battling the blaze.

A spokesman for Essex Fire Service said: "There were no suspicious circumstances. The fire started in the engine, it was a mechanical fault."
