ARMED police and the air ambulance rushed to Canvey after a mass brawl erupted between feuding families.

Three people – a man and woman in their thirties and a woman in her late teens – were treated by paramedics for head injuries after the fight in Second Avenue.

The woman in her thirties was also suffered chest pain and was taken to Southend Hospital for a further check-up.

Residents were left in shock by the brawl, which erupted after a dispute between neighbours.

One person, who asked not to be named, said: “Somebody said it was a fight and police cars were seen zooming down Long Road.

“It was a dispute between neighbours, apparently, and the kids.”

Another said one of the women had been jumped from behind, leading to other people getting involved.

The fight broke out just after 2pm on Friday, with the air ambulance landing close to the scene in Link Road at 2.45pm.

It was not needed to take anyone to hospital, but paramedics remained at the scene to treat the injured until late into the afternoon.

Concerned residents claimed on social media a woman had been making threats to stab someone.

However, police would not confirm a weapon was used, but are investigating reports of common assault.

Part of the fight spread to Cedar Road as police swarmed the island.

A police spokesman said: “Police were called to a disturbance in the Second Avenue area of Canvey, at about 2pm, on Friday.

“There were reports that a number of people had been assaulted.

“A man and a woman in Second Avenue suffered minor injuries.

“Two women were located in Cedar Avenue and had suffered minor injuries.

“Inquiries are ongoing.”
