FIREFIGHTERS were called to a blaze at a second hand shop in the early hours of this morning.

Crews were called to Les and Gary's in London Road, Westcliff shortly after 2am following reports there was furniture on fire and smoke had spread to the flat upstairs.

Nobody was injured.

Firefighter Kevin Wheeler from Leigh fire station said: "There was furniture against the outside wall that was alight.

"There was smoke in the flats and outside of the wall.

"There will be an investigation into the cause of the fire."

The shop is open for business as normal today.
