A CAR park on Canvey seafront has reopened following a morning of disruption.
Motorists were turned away from The Labworth car park in Furtherwick Road, Canvey this morning.
A Castle Point Council van is blocking the entrance to the car park following reports travellers arrived at the site at around 10am.
The Echo understands the travellers have now left the area and the car park has been reopened.
Passerby Joan Liddiard said: "They were at about 10am, I was driving past and there were people queuing to use the car park and they were having to turn away."
The council and owners of the Leisure Island Fun Park joined together to put in 280 concrete bollards around the field, in Eastern Esplanade, to stop travellers parking on the field earlier this year.
The bollards are believed to have cost £16,000.
Colin Riley, leader of Castle Point Council, said: “The council was alerted to the presence of travellers at the Labworth car park earlier this morning – immediate action was taken to discourage the travellers from remaining there.
"All necessary action was taken by council officers to prevent access to council owned land by travellers. We understand that the travellers have now moved from Castle Point to Thurrock.”
