After Annie Humphrey’s dad, who was once a session musician at the legendary Abbey Road studios, died suddenly from a heart attack, she, along with her family, decided to raise money in aid of the British Heart Foundation.

So what more fitting tribute was there than to hold a charity concert, with Seventies legends the Rubettes heading the bill?

“My dad – John Humphrey – passed away very suddenly from a heart attack in 2008 at the age of 58,”

explained Annie. “It was completely out of the blue. Had my family and my dad had more awareness, his death may have been prevented as there were warning signs, so we wanted to help raise awareness and money for medical advances for heart disease.

“My late father was a teacher first, but a wonderful musician second. He used to do session work in Abbey Road in the Sixties and mix among some of the great stars such as the Beatles, Southend’s Procol Harum and others.

“And it appears he passed the bug for music to me. Inmy spare time I sing in a band. A drummer I work with often isaman called Martin Clapson, who plays for the Rubettes.

This is why I asked him if his band would play, and they graciously agreed to, as they are between European tours.”

Joining the Seventies sensations are the Beagles, a popular rock covers band from Basildon, and rock and blues outfit Freefall.

The night takes place at the Lodge Country Inn, in Hayes Chase, Burnham Road, Battlesbridge, on Thursday, October 1, at 7.30pm.

Tickets are on sale, available from the Lodge, for £29.95, which includes a hog roast. There will also be a raffle with some great prizes on offer, promised Annie.

She said: “Raffle prizes are still being collected, but so far they include dinner for two at the Lodge, two tickets to watch Loose Women being filmed, a beauty voucher for nails and a spray tan, DVDs and CDs.”
