An innocent bystander who was hit in the face by a glass felt her teeth “crack” after a stag do descended into a violent brawl, a court heard.

Jeanette Baldwin, who was having drinks with her husband Lee and two friends at Bar Blanco in Rayleigh, had to have extensive dental surgery after she inadvertently became involved in a fight between at least 15 men in June 2013.

Four men from south Essex and London appeared at Basildon Crown Court yesterday, charged with affray following the fight which involved VIP group members and men celebrating a stag do.

All defendants denied being part of the fight which left two women - including bar attendant Layla Abouner - with injuries.

Robert Lennon, 41, of Mapledene, Hullbridge, Robert Sellick, of The Avenue, Canvey, Danny Deller, 41, of Grosvenor Drive, Loughton, and Spencer Joyce, of Harwich Road, Great Bromley, deny affray.

The court heard the fight began following an altercation between Joyce and Robert Sellick’s dad, also called Robert, in the men’s toilets.

It escalated after revellers began throwing chairs, bottles, glasses and even a sandwich board In a statement, which was read out to the court, Mrs Baldwin about when she was hit: “There was a burning sensation.

“I felt my teeth crack and all my teeth felt loose.

“I didn’t see where the object was thrown from.

“I couldn’t believe I had been hit. My nose was hurting and throbbing. I am not able to describe anyone who was involved in the fracas as it was a complete mess.

“There were objects being thrown all over the place.”

In Mr Baldwin’s statement, he added: “I remember an object flying past me and then I heard Jeanette scream. I turned round and saw Jeanette holding her face.

“She looked shocked and said something had hit her.”

Sellick, was charged with assaulting Ms Abouner, causing actual bodily harm and Joyce, was charged with assaulting Jeanette Baldwin, causing actual bodily harm. They both deny the charges.

The bar is now under new management.

The trial continues.
