AN armed robber threatened a customer and staff with a large knife at a store in Canvey last night.
The robber entered Chelmsford Star Co-op, in Pauls Court, shortly before 8.30pm and grabbed a customer, a man in his forties, by the neck.
The attacker then threatened shop staff with the knife, demanding money from them.
They handed over a three-figure sum of cash and he fled on foot.
Police inquiries to locate the man are still ongoing and they are appealing for witnesses.
Dc Jon Holden said: "Thankfully no-one was hurt but this was a terrifying incident that has left the victims shaken.
"Someone will know who this armed robber is and I would appeal to everyone in the Canvey community to help us identify him and bring him to justice.”
The suspect is described as white, around 6ft 2ins tall, of slim build, wearing blue jeans, a black hooded top, red t-shirt, black gloves, black Nike Air Max trainers and a scarf to cover his face.
Witnesses or anyone with information are asked to contact Dc Holden at Rayleigh CID on 101.
Alternatively, they can contact Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111 or www.crimestoppers-uk.org
