If you find yourself shouting "Bella" at King George V Playing Field in Rayleigh this weekend then don’t be surprised if a pack of hounds comes bounding towards you. A vets has revealed the top ten most popular dog names in the region, with some surprising results.
Staff at the YourVets24 Rayleigh clinic on Brook Road combed through their records and compiled the list after noticing that certain names kept cropping up when checking in their furry friends.
Bella ran away with the top spot, proving to be the most popular name across Rayleigh, Poppy and Molly came in second and third with Daisy and Ruby placing fourth and fifth, making an all-female top five.
Michelle Warwick, practice manager at the Rayleigh clinic said: “We’ve had a lot of fun in the clinic compiling the top ten list, and just had to share it!
“We did a similar database a couple of years ago and it’s really interesting to see how the names have changed, some that top of the list in 2013 do not even appear in this year’s top ten.
“We noticed that the 2015 top ten names are all human names also, this reflects how as a nation of pet lovers we see and treat our four-legged friends like we do our children.
“When looking at the top ten we definitely noticed a pattern: most names are quite sing-songy and lyrical, and it’s not hard to figure out why – if you’re going to be shouting your dog’s name in the park for years you want it to be easy on the ears!”
The top ten names were:
1. Bella
2. Poppy
3. Molly
4. Daisy
5. Ruby
6. Charlie
7. Roxy
8. Alfie
9. Max
10. Lily
