A CARE home has revealed plans to expand and create 13 new bedrooms in a bid to keep up with growing demand.

Longview Care Home, in Little Gypps Road, Canvey, is already home to 70 residents.

Runwood Homes, which runs Longview, has applied to Castle Point Council to build a brand new block.

The building will contain 13 new bedrooms, with a two-storey link to the existing care home.

In a statement submitted alongside its planning application, a spokesman for Runwood Homes said: "The planning application submitted in respect of Longview Care Home is for 13 new bedrooms to be added to the building. All rooms will have en-suite facilities.

“It is hoped that by increasing the number of rooms available at this care home, Runwood Homes will be able to assist with the ever growing demand for residential accommodation in the Canvey and Castle Point area.

“If the application by the company is successful, it is hoped that work will commence in spring 2016.”

The home, which offers long-term residential care for older people, as well as a day care centre, has faced a growing demand for its rooms, with a waiting list full of people hoping for a vacancy.

The day centre cares for another 20 people, with activities regularly organised to entertain residents at the home.

The Care Quality Commission classed the home as good during its last inspection in May this year, praising staff for encouraging residents to personalise their rooms to make them feel at home.

A decision on the new block is expected to be made
