THE daughter of a motorcyclist killed in an accident in Shoebury has started a petition in her dad’s memory to make a dangerous junction safer.

Dominique Burrows was riding his red QM125 motorcycle in Ness Road, when he was in collision with a grey Toyota Carina earlier this month.

His daughter, Anna Corner, 18, has started a petition to get zigzag lines and speed bumps down the road so no other family has to go through what they have been through.

In her petition, she states her father died due to people parking outside Rogers convenience store, meaning he wasn’t able to be seen.

She said: “There are double yellow lines there for a reason and no one takes notice of them and because of that, my dad was killed.

“Something needs to be done now my dad lost his life due to this and this isn’t the first accident that has happened down there.”

The petition will be sent to Southend Council and so far has 626 signatures.

Dominique, a bus driver for First from Southend, was described as a larger-than-life character, who was a keen activist for social equality.

After the crash, he was taken to Southend Hospital where he was treated for head injuries, before being transferred to the Royal London Hospital, in Whitechapel, where he later died.

Anna added: “Lots of people are supporting me because a lot of people are supporting my dad.

It is dangerous and it needs to be sorted.

“I hope the council will do something now there has been a fatality.

“The reason I am so adamant about getting this done is because my dad was a protester and if he was here now, he would be doing this.”

Miss Corner, from Shoebury, said that outside where it happened there are double yellow lines, but a lot of people will park there just to pop in the shops and she thinks people won’t park on zig-zags because they are very strict on fines.

“Being on a bike, my dad was probably a bit hard to see. If those cars weren’t there, my dad would have seen the car or the car would have seen him.

“I also live right near where it happened, so it is a big thing for me to sort it and there are lots of kids round that area.”

A 51-year-old woman from Shoebury was arrested at the scene of the crash earlier this month on suspicion of driving offences. She has been bailed pending further police inquiries until February 25, 2016.

DRIVERS JUST DON’T CARE

COMMENTS left on the petition expressed concern about the safety of the road, with many others reporting similar incidents in the same area:

JEMMA BURRELL wrote: “I think that road is disgusting, a lot of drivers don’t care who is crossing, they’re constantly rushing about and speeding when there is no need for it. And I’ve always said that vehicles should be banned from parking all along that road as it’s just a recipe for disaster!

"It makes me upset to think another lovely person has fallen victim to the dangers of that road.

"Something needs to be down now, to prevent any other tragic accidents!

"R.I.P Dominique Burrows.”

LOUISE HARRIS wrote: “Dom was a great guy, full of passion against injustice to anyone, but especially the underdog. The world is a duller place without him and it tragedy he has died.”

B ABREHART said: “My mum was knocked over on the zebra crossing by an intoxicated van driver on Ness Road five years ago, while crossing the zebra crossing by Seaview. Dangerous road is an understatement and something needs to be done.”

KAYLEIGH O’HARA wrote: “One of my childhood friend’s dad was killed in a motorbike accident due to bad parking and speeding down Ness Road. It isn’t needed and is certainly not allowed, we shouldn’t ignore this!”
