Officers from Basildon’s tactical team arrested two men and helped jail another as they continue to crack down on drugs.

The two men were arrested after police discovered 30 wraps of crack cocaine and heroin during a stop-andsearch in Southernhay, Basildon, at about 6.30pm on Monday. The haul is believed to be worth a combined £300.

Officers also discovered a lock knife, mobile phones and cash.

A 19-year-old man, of no fixed address, was arrested on suspicion of supplying controlled drugs and having an offensive weapon.

A 20-year-old man, also of no fixed address, was arrested on suspicion of supplying controlled drugs. Both have bailed, pending further investigations, until March 23, next year.

The day after the stop-and - search, a Basildon man was jailed for four years after an investigation launched by the same tactical team.

A jury at Basildon Crown Court found Robert Emmins guilty of possessing 11.8 grams of heroin with intent to supply, after a two-day trial. The heroin could have been worth about £1,180 if sold on the streets.

Emmins, of Long Riding, admitted growing 19 cannabis plants in his bedroom, which had a street value of £8,550.

The 48-year-old was sentenced to three years and six months in prison for possessing a classAdrug with intent to supply.

He was also jailed for six months for breaching a suspended sentence and six months for two counts of producing a class B drug.

The sentences will run concurrently.
