CONCERNS have been raised resurfacing work on a Canvey road could cause a week of chaos.

Link Road will be closed overnight between Monday, December 7 and Saturday, December 12.

The closures, from the junction of Third Avenue to Fairview, will be in place between 8.30pm and 5am.

Residents have been advised not to park on Link Road, and to make alternative arrangements.

Dave Blackwell, leader of the Canvey Independent Party, believes the closures are impractical and are likely to cause major problems.

He said: “I can’t really see how it will all work out there.

“People will still be coming home from work at 8.30pm, I think this should have been done at 10pm. It’s not even like people can park on the other side of the road because it will all be shut.

“That road is very large, so much so that it actually covers multiple wards. I can see people getting really wound up about this.

“The other issue is that people will be parking in side roads too, so it will spell chaos really.”

Access to the section of the road will remain open to pedestrians.

Essex Highways insist that the work is essential.

A spokesman said: “Engineers will be carrying out essential carriageway resurfacing on Link Road, Canvey, next month.

“Due to the narrowness of the road and the size of machinery we use, it will be necessary to close the road to through traffic from December 7 to December 12 between 8.30pm and 5am the following day.

“Work has been planned overnight to reduce disruption for local residents, but resurfacing the carriageway will inevitably cause some disruption and we ask people to please be patient while we work to improve the road.”
