New pictures have been released of a man wanted in connection with the attempted robbery of a shop.

Police have issued CCTV images after Mark Stephens, who runs Four Vintners off licence in Mill Road, Stock, chased a gunman down the street armed with a bottle of wine.

The gunman marched up to the off-licence counter at about 6.20pm on Wednesday and held up the weapon with both hands.

He demanded Mr Stephens, 53, hand over the contents of the till.

Mr Stephens told the Echo: “The door just swung open and he strode in.

“He reached into his coat pocket, pulled out a gun and then braced himself, Hawaii Five-O style, with both hands on the gun.

“It took me a couple of seconds to realise that it could have been a real gun, it looked real.”

The would-be robber left empty-handed when Mr Stephens chased him out of the shop and down Swan Lane before losing sight of him.

No shots were fired and nobody was injured.

The police helicopter was deployed and officers carried out an extensive search of the area, but no one was found.

Police have issued CCTV images of a man they want to identify.

He is described as white, about 6ft tall and slim.

He wore a red scarf, blue jeans, dark shoes, a shiny black padded gilet and a dark coloured hooded top underneath with a silver or white trim.

Anyone who recognises the man or has any information can call Det Con Richard Walker on 101 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111.
