SCHOOLCHILDREN were treated to a special flying visit from the Royal Navy.

Yesterday, youngsters at Briscoe Primary School & Nursery in Pitsea were visited by the Navy who landed their Lynx helicopter onto the school playing fields for the afternoon.

All 330 children were given an opportunity to climb aboard to see what it would be like to be a pilot or a passenger.

Headteacher Erica Barnett said: "The pilots told the children all about flying the helicopter and as they left the school, they turned the helicopter around and made it bow down!

"Our school dog Sid even managed to be a pilot for the afternoon!

"It was the most amazing learning opportunity and experience for the children and one that we won't forget in a hurry."
