BILLERICAY primary schools are some of the best in south Essex, new figures show.

Last week the Echo reported on Key Stage 2 SATS scores and printed a top ten of schools in south Essex, according to their average point score.

This list mistakenly missed off schools with a Billericay postcode.

Top of the tree is Lee Chapel Primary School, in The Knares, Basildon, with an average score of 32.

The point score is a combination of results across the three core subjects of maths, English and science, with a national expectation of 27 per pupil.

Quilters Junior School, in Laindon Road, Billericay, is second in the south Essex table with an impressive 31.8 points.

Elsewhere, Sunnymede Junior School, in The Meadow Way, Billericay, is fourth in the table with an average point score of 31.5 and Downham Church of England Voluntary Controlled Primary School, in Church Road, Ramsden Heath, is joint tenth with 30.8 points.

Ray Gooding, county councillor for education and lifelong learning, praised all the county’s schools for their performance in this year’s tests.

He said: “This is a fantastic way to cap off a wonderful year for education in Essex.”
