WORK on a new £2million Wickford health facility will get underway next week.

The two storey unit, which will replace the London Road Surgery, is to be built on the town's former market site, in Market Road.

An access road to the former market will be shut to pedestrians and vehicles from Monday, February 1 in order for contractors to commence demolition of the old market site buildings.

The new facility will boast eight examination rooms, three treatment rooms, and interview and training rooms.

Phil Turner, leader of Basildon Council said: “This will be a wonderful asset fit for the 21st century to meet our aspirations for better healthcare provision.

"We are keeping people informed of the preparatory activity at the site as the safety and security of residents and visitors is paramount.”
