THE Grand Hotel, a relic of a gentler era, has lain forlorn and unloved for too long.

The beautiful old building has been at the heart of Leigh, since the turn of the last century when it welcomed visitors who had come to breath in the fresh sea air.

More recently, as its splendour faded, it became a bustling Leigh pub, attracting musicians such as the Rolling Stones’ Ronnie Wood.

By the time the Grand pub finally shut in 2008, it was clear it would need someone with loads of ambition, relatively large pockets and a clear vision to reverse this landmark building’s fortunes.

Mick Norcross seemed the answer to a lot of prayers when he emerged as a possible future owner and wanted to turn the old building into a boutique hotel.

Leigh residents, tired of the vandalism and antisocial behaviour the empty building suffered, breathed a sigh of relief.

That was in 2012 and since then Mr Norcross’s plans have been tested by planning issues and the discovery of Japanese Knotweed which has had to be painstakingly removed.

However, he has now bought the property outright which could be the gamechanger. His revised plans are set to be revealed in the coming months.

The majority of residents will be glad to knowwhatever its final use the Grand will come alive again.
