A NEW report has been published detailing complaints and investigations against Essex Police officers.

Police and Crime Commissioner Nick Alston publishes the quarterly report.

More officers are under investigation for their treatment of vulnerable people and several other inquiries are ongoing.

The latest allegations involved incidents reported between October and December last year. They include

  • CONCERNS about child abuse investigations in north Essex are still being examined - 16 months on.

A total of 56 cases were referred to the Independent Police Complaints Commision in November, 2014.

Three officers are suspended and 21 officers are on notice.

One of the suspended officers, Det Con Lee Pollard, has subsequently been dismissed for another matter.

Allegations against the officers include failing to make reasonable inquiries and progress investigations, failing to address victim safeguarding and concerns regarding the honesty and integrity of officers.

Six former officers are also being investigated.

Six officers are still being investigated on suspicion of criminal offences including perverting the course of justice and misconduct in public office.

The cases were investigated between 2011 and 2015 and include rape allegations and sex abuse against very young children.

  • TWO Essex Police officers are facing gross misconduct hearings after a man died while walking on the A12.

An investigation into the death of Kyle Brooks, 28, was carried out after he was hit by a number of vehicles while walking on the road between Chelmsford and Witham.

The Independent Police Complains Commission carried out an investigation and passed the file to the Crown Prosecution Service.

The CPS decided to take no criminal action against the officers, however, a workplace hearing is due to be scheduled.

The investigation related to the response from Essex Police to 999 calls about a man walking on the A12 on October 30, 2014, who was later hit and killed.

Essex Police received three emergency calls between 3am and 3.39am and officers drove a stretch of the dual carriageway to search for him but could not find him.

Following a further emergency call, officers found his body on the road between Chelmsford and Witham.

  • A POLICE officer and member of police staff have accepted cautions for breaching data protection legislation.

The member of staff has subsequently resigned. The officer is facing a gross misconduct hearing April.

  • A SERVING Essex police officer has been placed on restricted duties after submitting false mileage claims.
  • AN investigation is being carried out after police officers shot a man.

Stephen Debley, 48, called police before taking shots at a parked car using two air guns.

When officers arrived, he refused calls to put down his guns and threatened to shoot the officers.

Debley, of Knights Way, Dunmow, was shot in the leg and later jailed for six years.

The Independent Police Complaints Commission is carrying out an independent investigation into the actions of the officers in the circumstances.

  • A POLICE officer remains suspended after allegedly trying to take advantage of a vulnerable woman.

It is alleged the Essex police officer made “inappropriate contact” with a vulnerable victim of domestic abuse.

The allegation is being investigated by the professional standards department within Essex Police.
